Superintendent Letitia Doe Note’s

The Illinois Center for Rehabilitation and Education – Roosevelt (ICRE-R) is located in the Chicago Medical District and operates under the Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS), Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS).  ICRE-R provides a comprehensive transition program for students with physical disabilities and other health impairments who have completed their high school education but have deferred their high school diplomas. The program is two years in length and is available to students for two years or until they reach 22 years of age, whichever comes first.

As a residential and/or day school program, ICRE-R is uniquely qualified to teach students the skills required for successful management of their lives in the community of their choice.

The ICRE-R transition program includes the following areas: self-care including the medical health and wellness needs of the student; personal assistant training empowering the student to direct a service provider in the care of their daily needs; and mobility training which assists students in community access.

ICRE-R strives to prepare students for future careers and employment, using the Career Cruising program as a resource for career exploration and resume building. ICRE-R provides a variety of work experiences and on-site vocational training opportunities for its students. In addition, ICRE-R students are encouraged to continue their education at local community college classes.

The ICRE-R philosophy incorporates person-centered planning, which encourages students to self advocate, identify their individual strengths, interests, and talents, to set goals and develop a vision for the future, while also coordinating the community support team and services in a cohesive manner.

Candidates for the ICRE-R Transition Program may be accepted as residential or day students. There is no tuition cost for eligible students but space in the program is limited.

Potential candidates may apply for early admission to secure placement in the ICRE-R Transition Program.

ICRE-R potential candidates/students must have a physical disability, have a current IEP or Section 504 Plan, must be medically stable, must be able to benefit from transition services, and must have the required documentation (medical and educational).

Students are responsible for full participation in the ICRE-R Transition Program as well as adhering to all State, DRS/DHS, and ICRE-R policies, procedures, rules, and guidelines.

ICRE-R follows a school year calendar with scheduled school breaks and weekend closures. Students are required to return to their home and community during breaks and on weekends.

Potential candidates, educational entities, medical personnel, community and private agencies, and parents/guardians may contact ICRE-R for a facility tour.
